Modelled 10-year averages (ERA5 / ERA5-Land via Open-Meteo), checked against the Pyramid research station in the Khumbu, 2016-2025 (within about 1–2 °C of the station's measurements). Temperatures only: the model's rainfall is too coarse to trust in rain-shadow valleys such as Manang, so we leave it out. Mountain valleys and ridges vary more than these grid-model averages show.
How to read these numbers
The tables show 10-year averages from a weather model, adjusted for each place’s elevation. Khopra Danda is an open ridge at 3,640 m, so nights are much colder than in the villages below, and clear skies decide whether you see Dhaulagiri.
The seasons
- Spring (March to April): rhododendron forest in bloom around Ghorepani and Swanta. Haze and afternoon cloud are more common later in spring.
- Monsoon (June to September): rain, leeches and cloud that usually hides the mountains. Few lodges on the ridge stay busy.
- Autumn (October to November): the clearest skies and the best chance of sharp views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South.
- Winter (December to February): cold, clear and quiet. Snow is possible on the ridge.
