Modelled 10-year averages (ERA5 / ERA5-Land via Open-Meteo), checked against the Pyramid research station in the Khumbu, 2016-2025 (within about 1–2 °C of the station's measurements). Temperatures only: the model's rainfall is too coarse to trust in rain-shadow valleys such as Manang, so we leave it out. Mountain valleys and ridges vary more than these grid-model averages show.

How to read these numbers

The tables show 10-year averages from a weather model, adjusted for each camp’s elevation. On an open ridge like Mardi Himal, wind and cloud matter as much as temperature: the view from High Camp and the Upper Viewpoint is the reason to go, so clear skies are what you’re planning for.

The seasons

  • Spring (March to May): rhododendron and oak forest in bloom below Low Camp. Afternoon cloud often builds over the ridge, so start early.
  • Monsoon (June to September): rain, leeches in the forest and cloud that usually hides the peaks.
  • Autumn (October to November): the clearest skies and the most reliable mountain views.
  • Winter (December to February): cold nights at High Camp, and snow can make the ridge above High Camp hard going.
